Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist antihypertensive drug. It can block the type I (AT1) receptor of angiotensin II, increase the plasma level of angiotensin II, stimulate the unclosed AT2 receptor, and counteract the role of AT1 receptor, so as to achieve the effect of dilating blood vessels and lowering blood pressure. In the United States, valsartan is a drug used to treat hypertension, congestive heart failure, and post-myocardial infarction.
 

Valsartan is a non-peptide, oral effective angiotensin II (AT) receptor antagonist. It is highly selective to type I receptor (AT1) and can be antagonized competitively without any excitation. It also inhibited the release of aldosterol by adrenal cells mediated by AT1 receptor, but not potassium, which indicated that valsartan had a selective effect on AT1 receptor. In vivo tests on various types of hypertensive animal models showed that valsartan had good hypotensive effect and had no significant effect on cardiac systolic function and heart rate.
