What is Canthaxanthin  ?

Canthaxanthin is widely used and generally recognized as safe (GRAS) for use as a food color additive. Extensively used in commercial food products like ketchup, Ocean Spray cranberry juice, etc. 30mg per 16 ounces of food or liquid ingested is the suggested dosage. Research does show that carotenoid supplements are not as well absorbed when taken alone on an empty stomach.

Canthaxanthin is a potent lipid-soluble antioxidant. The biological functions of canthaxanthin are related, at least in part, to its ability to function as an antioxidant (free radical scavenging/vitamin E sparing) in animal tissues.

Application

 It can be used to meat, frinks, jelly, candy and milchings. It also can be used in Effervescent Tablets.

 2. Applied in the feed field.

Canthaxanthin is not found in wild Atlantic Salmon, but is a minor carotenoid in Pacific Salmon.

Canthaxanthin is used in farm-raised trout. Canthaxanthin is used in combination with astaxanthin for some salmon feeds.
