Proline can be used as intermediates in organic synthesis and pharmaceutical chemistry, and is mainly used in modification of drug molecules and bioactive molecules. In organic synthesis and transformation, D-proline can be esterified under acidic conditions to generate corresponding amino ester derivatives.

Proline is used for synthetic drugs and food and feed additives. Proline is an amino acid component in collagen fiber, which can be used as a nutrient.
