Atazanavir is an hiv-1 protease inhibitor that selectively inhibits the specific processing of viral Gag and gag-pol polyproteins in hiv-1 infected cells, thereby blocking the formation of mature virion, and is used in combination with other antiretroviral drugs for the treatment of hiv-1 infection.
