Application
1. Control cholesterol
One of the biggest doubts about human health is cholesterol, which causes many serious diseases. Chitosan has two mechanisms to lower cholesterol. One is to suppress the absorption of fat, and the other is to excrete cholesterol from the blood of the human body. First, chitosan inhibits the activity of lipases that aid in fat absorption. Lipase breaks down fat and allows the body to absorb it. The other one is to excrete bile acids. Once bile acid is excreted, cholesterol in the blood is used to make bile acids. These two mechanisms turn chitosan into a strong cholesterol eradicator. Chitosan is a natural material with a strong anionic adsorption that is suitable for lowering cholesterol without any side effects.
2. Restraining bacterial activity
Chitosan is easily dissolved in a weak acid solvent, and it is worth noting that the dissolved solution contains an amino group (NH2+) which binds the negative electrons to inhibit the bacteria. The bactericidal activity of medical grade chitosan makes it widely used in medicine, textile and food.
3. Prevention and control of hypertension
One of the most influential factors for hypertension is chloride (cl-). It is usually ingested by salt. Many people have spent too much salt since 2010. Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE: Angiotensin Converting Enzyme) attacks angiotensin II, a material that causes blood vessel shortening, which is derived from chloride ions. Polymer chitosan acts like a dietary fiber and is not absorbed in the intestine. Chitosan excretes chloride ions by adsorption between its own chloride and ammonia ions. Therefore, chitosan reduces angiotensin II. It helps prevent high blood pressure, especially those who overdose salt.
4. Sucking and agreeing to excrete heavy metals
A notable feature of chitosan is its ability to adsorb. Many low molecular weight materials, such as metal ions, cholesterol, triglycerides, bile acids, and organic mercury, can be adsorbed by chitosan. In addition, chitosan can not only adsorb magnesium and potassium, but also adsorb zinc, calcium, mercury and uranium. The adsorption activity of chitosan can selectively act. It is harmful that these metal ions are too concentrated in the human body. For example, too high a concentration of copper ions (Cu2+) in the blood can cause copper poisoning and even carcinogenic effects. Chitosan has proven to be a highly efficient chelating medium. The size of the adsorption of chitosan depends on its degree of deacetylation. The greater the degree of deacetylation, the stronger the adsorption.
